The acronym T.E.A.M means “Together everyone achieves more.” A Team Player’s “individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work and a civilization work.” R. Rathinasabapathy 1981 M&P is a great TEAM player of repute constructing hotels, residential projects and also into flat promotion in the name of GD Builders. R.Rathinasabapathy is a diligent, industrious, conscientious, persevering and an indefatigable person. He feels that the harder one works the luckier one gets !!

Aperson’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others. This is one of the most significant attributes of Rathinam. Helping one person might not change the whole world but it could change the world for one person. It’s not where you start that is important but where you finally get into that is important. Born in an agricultural family at Varagadai village close to Mayiladuthurai with 5 siblings he was raised in a joint family with many aunts and uncles who lived as a closely knit family.

Rathinam studied at RCTHS School,Chidambaram. He studied Polytechnic instead of PUC, then joined Annamalai University in the Mechanical Engineering & Production faculty. He was a bright student and excelled in academics. After he graduated in 1981 he joined Muthiah Polytechnic as a lecturer. In 1983 he joined the Agricultural engineering department as an “Assistant Engineer” in Madurai. All along his University days and while working in the Polytechnic as well he always wanted to be an entrepreneur but family circumstances did not favor his entry into business, so he took up the post of AE.

As an assistant engineer he was in charge of executing a lot of civil works which was predominantly digging wells and constructing irrigation channels. In 1989 he had a chance to construct a house of about 2000 sft for his friend in Madurai. That was a good start for he was getting a number of residential projects thereafter. He would have done more than 300 houses and villas until 2004. In 2004 after the tsunami which happened on the 26’th December he was instrumental in constructing 261 concrete houses at Mudaliyarkuppam near Pondicherry, the prototype which had “four units in one” was adopted by the government in many places. He had by then gave voluntary Retirement from his job as an assistant engineer.

He then became a full time builder and a contractor.

“Ocean spray” a luxury beach resort on ECR was constructed by Rathinasabapathybetween 2007 – 2010. In 2012 he constructed another hotel by the name “Windflower” in Pondicherry that had a restaurant and 42 rooms. In 2007 he shifted his family to Chennai. Between 2012 -2013 he built a retired community called “Serene Pelican” in Pondicherry. This has 240 villas for senior citizens to live comfortably for the best time in their lives !!In 2014 GD builders did the renovation of GRT Grand at T. Nagar in Chennai as well as the renovation of Crowne plaza. In 2015 they got orders to do GRT hotel at Tirunelveli as well as expansion project of Radisson hotels near Chennai airport.

GD Builders by then had become an expert in doing luxurious hotel projects and villas. 1n 2018 – 2019 they did the construction of 46 International hostel rooms at Sathyabhama University.R. Rathinasabapathy’s philosophy is, with sincerity, diligence and faith + hard work one can do wonders. His association with Dr V. Iraianbu IAS, presently the Chief Secretary to the Tamilnadu Government, for more than two and a half decades and his father in law DrA.Gnanam,former Vice chancellor for four Universities one of the top scientists of the world taught him essential values which shaped his principles, standards of behavior, understanding and prioritization of what is important in life.

R.Rathinasabapathy’s wife Mrs G. Vasanthi has a doctorate in Bio technology and is presently doing an in-depth study of the various rivers in Tamil Nadu. His daughter R.Deepthi is a proud winner of the Balashree award for creative writing from Dr.APJ.Abdul Kalam when he was the president of India. His son R.Gnanabalan is an civil engineer and has joined him in business and GD Builders is on the threshold of getting many more projects.

R.Rathinasabapathy’s trademark is his helping tendency. He has helped many people get what they had wanted in their lives. He helps people particularly when it comes to education and supports children in all kinds of social activities. His time investment to our AUETAA is substantial. He along with our other auetaan’s met our Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnad, Mr.M.K.Stalin in April 2021 and got permission to vaccinate for COVID 19 at our AUETAA House. Besides all this R.Rathinasabapathy is a great person and a lovely friend to have.
